About Ethical Family

Welcome to Ethical Family—a place where faith, ethics, and everyday family life come together. This site was born from my deepest conviction that families are sacred spaces where love is not only felt, but formed; where values are not only taught, but lived; and where faith becomes flesh in the ordinary rhythms of conversation, forgiveness, sacrifice, and hope.

I am a Theology professor and writer who has spent more than two decades teaching, mentoring students, serving families, and reflecting on the moral and spiritual challenges of contemporary life. My vocation—both professionally and personally—has always been to help families grow in integrity, compassion, and wisdom. And this mission continues here at Ethical Family.

Ethical Family is not just a website—it is a companion for families longing to build homes rooted in faith, strengthened by ethical conviction, and sustained by love.

Who I Am and Why I Started Ethical Family

For 21 years, I served as a Theology professor at Ateneo de Davao University, teaching ethics, spirituality, formation, and pastoral theology. I have written books on marriage and family, guided countless students through research, and facilitated retreats for couples and communities. My life’s work has been shaped by one overriding truth: faith becomes transformative when it enters the home.

Like many families, mine has navigated seasons of struggle—moments of fear, conflict, loss, and deep uncertainty. Our family journey, especially with our son’s challenges, has strengthened my conviction that ethical and faith-centered living is not a luxury; it is a lifeline. These experiences have taught me humility, empathy, and the courage to keep choosing love even when it feels costly.

No family is perfect, but every family can grow in grace.

Ethical Family is my way of giving back—offering reflections, spiritual insights, and practical wisdom that I hope will help other families find direction, hope, and deeper meaning, especially in moments when life becomes difficult to understand.

What Ethical Family Stands For

The heart of Ethical Family is simple: to strengthen families through a faith-informed moral vision. This includes:

  • helping couples rediscover the covenant they built their marriage on,
  • supporting parents in raising children with clarity and compassion,
  • offering spiritual grounding during crises or transitions,
  • nurturing emotional intelligence and moral discernment at home,
  • and creating a space where families can reflect on the deeper meanings of life.

In an age marked by digital overload, moral confusion, and weakening relational bonds, families need more than tips or techniques. They need anchors. Ethical Family provides those anchors by drawing from the riches of Christian ethics, Catholic Social Teaching, Scripture, tradition, and real-life experiences.

How Faith Shapes Our Family Vision

Faith is not simply a belief system—it is a way of inhabiting the world. It shapes our choices, our relationships, our worldview, and our capacity to love. On Ethical Family, faith is woven naturally into discussions about:

  • marriage and covenant commitment,
  • parenting with moral clarity,
  • navigating suffering and loss,
  • practicing forgiveness and reconciliation,
  • embracing compassion and justice,
  • and cultivating spirituality in daily life.

If you want to see how this vision unfolds in practical terms, I invite you to explore one of our featured reflections: Marriage as Covenant: Theology Meets Daily Life. This article demonstrates how Ethical Family seeks to turn complex theological ideas into accessible, personal, and transformative insights for everyday life.

Faith is not merely believed—it is lived, practiced, tested, and renewed within the intimacy of family life.

The Mission of Ethical Family

Ethical Family exists for one purpose: to accompany families on the journey toward becoming communities of love, wisdom, and moral integrity. This mission unfolds through three pillars:

1. Reflection

Offering deep, accessible, and faith-rooted reflections on the issues families face—communication, conflict, forgiveness, parenting challenges, marriage struggles, and the quest for spiritual meaning.

2. Formation

Providing ethical insights inspired by Catholic teaching, practical psychology, and real-life experiences that can help families cultivate virtues like patience, empathy, responsibility, and courage.

3. Renewal

Supporting families in finding hope, healing, and a renewed sense of purpose, even when they feel overwhelmed, discouraged, or fragmented.

Why Ethics Matters in the Home

Ethics is not merely about rules—it is about forming the kind of people we become. Families are the first place where moral consciousness is shaped. Here, children learn:

  • how to speak truthfully,
  • how to respect others,
  • how to handle failure and frustration,
  • how to ask for forgiveness,
  • how to make decisions that are good, not just convenient,
  • and how to build relationships based on trust rather than fear.

Our homes, therefore, are not simply living spaces—they are moral laboratories. Ethical Family aims to help families discover how everyday choices become pathways to virtue and authentic discipleship.

A family becomes ethical not through perfection, but through consistent choices toward truth, compassion, and responsibility.

My Approach to Writing and Ministry

Every article on this site is shaped by a pastoral heart, academic training, and lived experience. I write not as someone who has solved all family challenges, but as someone who continues to learn, wrestle, and hope. I approach each topic with:

  • Honesty – acknowledging both the light and shadows of family life.
  • Compassion – understanding that many families carry hidden struggles.
  • Theological depth – grounding reflections in Catholic teaching.
  • Practical clarity – offering guidance that families can actually use.
  • Encouragement – reminding you that God is present in your journey.

This site is not a place of judgment or unrealistic ideals. It is a space of accompaniment—where learning, healing, and spiritual growth are possible.
